ColumnWood Bed and Breakfast, located in the Historic District of Bowling Green, Virginia, is centrally located within a two-hour drive of the Nations' most popular attractions. ColumnWood is charmingly situated on the main street of Bowling Green, which was settled 1667 - Inc. 1837. With over 5000 square foot of hardwood floors, ColumnWood is one of Bowling Green's largest historic homes. In addition to high ceilings and pocket doors, it is blessed with many large windows, which still have their original "wavy" glass. Guests will enjoy our large columned front porch with two porch swings.
ColumnWood offers four large elegant rooms, each with a large private bath and either a queen or king-sized bed. The Ionic room is our ground floor suite, with king-sized canopy bed and easy access shower. All rooms are furnished with a TV and stereo. A guest kitchen is stocked with soft drinks and homemade cookies. Your delicious breakfast is always home-cooked and will be served on either Depression-era glass or china in our elegant wainscoted dining room. With advance notice, and for an additional charge, we can provide a light lunch and elegant dinner. There are also several choices for dinning out, from fine dinning in a historic setting to fast food.
We are always available to make suggestions and give directions to Washington, D.C., Richmond, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Charlottesville. All are within a 2-hour drive of Bowling Green. Paramount's Kings Dominion theme park is a short 20-minute drive away as is Historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. Nearby Fort A.P. Hill provides thousands of acres of lakes and woodland areas for nature walks, hunting and fishing. Permits for the latter are available on a long and short-term basis. Civil War enthusiasts will find many historic sites in Caroline County including the Stonewall Jackson Shrine and the Garret Farm where historians say Linclon assassin John Wilkes Booth was killed.
